3 fruity fixes for frazzled hair

Heat, humidity, and unrelenting sunshine can really do a number on your hair. So try a few of these fruity fixers, then get ready for a cornucopia of compliments

Go bananas. This extra-strength treatment is tailor-made for dry, frizzy, or damaged hair. Mash ½ of a ripe avocado and ½ of a ripe banana in a bowl, then add 1 tablespoon of olive oil, and 3 drops of lemon oil, and stir well. Scoop up the mixture with your fingers and work it into your dry hair. Cover your hair with a shower cap, wait 60 minutes or so, then shampoo as usual. For badly damaged hair, repeat this treatment up to three times a week until the bounce and shine return.

Lemony fresh. Tame wild tresses and control frizz with this super-simple citrus hair gel. Warm 1 cup of water with 1 packet of Knox® unflavored gelatin over low heat in a saucepan until the gelatin is completely dissolved. Remove from the heat and stir in 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. Let the mixture cool until set, then spoon it into a jar with a tight-fitting lid and store it in the fridge for two weeks. Use it as you would any commercial hair gel.

Restore the radiance. Bring back the brilliance to dull, drab hair with this orange conditioner. Extract the juice from one orange and mix it in a shatterproof bowl with ½ cup of water and 1 teaspoon of honey. Step into the shower and shampoo your hair. Pour the orange water over your head and massage it into your hair from roots to tips. Leave it on for 10 minutes before rinsing it out with warm water. Dry and style your hair as usual, and admire your soft, shiny tresses.
