Try some DIY TLC—you’ll feel A-OK!
Did you ever have one of those days where you didn’t realize you’d been sloppy with the sunscreen until your friends start saying, “Oh wow—you look really red!”? If you find yourself with a sunburn, take care of it immediately. These homemade healers are just what the doctor ordered to soothe your simmering skin:
Avocado. Scoop the flesh out of an avocado, and rub it onto your ailin’ skin. Or rub a little avocado oil over the burn. Either treatment will provide cooling, healing relief in a hurry.
Baking soda. Add ½ cup of baking soda to a tub of lukewarm water, then soak in it for 15 to 20 minutes. When you get out, don’t towel off. Instead, let your body air-dry, and leave the soda residue on your skin so it continues to provide cooling relief.
Carrots. Sponge the afflicted skin with ice water, then dip a piece of gauze in 100 percent carrot juice, and squeeze it out so that it’s wet, but not dripping. Put this dressing over the burn, and secure it lightly with more gauze. Repeat several times a day until the pain and swelling are gone.
