A hangover may not be a life-threatening condition, but it sure can feel like one. Fortunately, there are ways to avoid that “I just want to die—now!” feeling. Here’s a trio of the best:
Before you leave for an evening where you’ll be drinking, swallow a tablespoon of olive oil. It’ll help prevent an upset stomach.
Alternate a glass of water with every cocktail or glass of vino. The H20 will keep you hydrated and fill you up, so you’ll drink less alcohol.
As soon as you get home, drink at least 8 ounces of Gatorade® or similar sports drink. It’ll replace the electrolytes the alcohol depleted from your system.
Almost everyone who drinks at all gets a little carried away—especially on New Year’s Eve. For that reason, there are more hangover remedies than there were “champagne” bubbles on Lawrence Welk’s TV stage set. But not to worry—any of these winners should put you back in the land of the living in no time at all.
Cure #1—Mix 1 teaspoon of freshly squeezed lime juice and a pinch of cumin in a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice, and drink up.
Cure #2—Eat 1 teaspoon of raw honey every hour until you feel better. You can take it straight from the spoon, stirred into milk or tea, spread on toast or English muffins, or mixed with yogurt.
Cure #3—Drink a tall, cold glass of buttermilk.
