Like a lot of other women my age, I once took sunbathing as seriously as final exams. I really went for “the bronze” back then. And to remind me of it now, I have a smattering of “the brown”—a bunch of flat, freckle-like age spots on my arms, neck and face. Back when I soaked up the sun on a regular basis, my skin tried to defend itself from solar damage by producing too much protective melanin. Over time, the melanin turned to cellular debris that bunched up in irregular patches, and voila—age spots!
You can spend big bucks on prescription skin creams or chemical peels, but sometimes the best remedies are the most basic. Here are some homespun, but highly effective ways to make pesky age spots fade into the background.
Remember, no matter how you attack them, your age spots will reappear with sun exposure. So never go outside without covering up and applying sunscreen—even in cold weather.
