Garlic has long been used for its potent healing effects, and it doubles as a powerful cold preventive because it keeps people (and vampires) at a distance. Garlic tea is a great way to get garlic into your system quickly, and believe it or not, it’s surprisingly tasty! Here’s how to brew up a cup:
Chop 2 medium garlic cloves, and simmer them in 1 cup of water for 10 to 15 minutes. Add 2 to 3 slices of fresh ginger to counteract the garlic’s pungent flavor and increase the warming action. Add honey and lemon to taste. Drink 2 to 4 cups of this tea per day until your cold is gone. (Caution: If you’re taking blood-thinning medication, steer clear of consuming large amounts of garlic unless your doctor gives you the green light.)
If this tonic isn’t exactly your cup of, well, tea, try nibbling on garlic toast instead. Mash a raw garlic clove, spread it and some honey on a piece of toasted bread, bagel, or English muffin, and munch away. If you do this two to three times a day, you’ll clobber your cold in no time!
