Spring is right around the corner, and that means that barefoot season (or at least foot-baring sandal season!) isn’t far behind. So kick off your shoes, peel off your socks, and get ready to bare those winter-weary tootsies. Here’s how:
Summerize them. Get your feet looking their best with a bedtime foot scrub made from ¼ cup of brown sugar, ⅛ cup of almond oil, and 3 drops of ginger essential oil. Mix the ingredients thoroughly, spread the mixture generously onto your feet, and let it penetrate for three to four minutes. Then massage it into your skin, pull on a pair of old cotton socks, and hit the sack. When you wake up, your tootsies should be the toast of the town!
Smooth them. Get your feet ready for action with this simple salt rub: Moisten a handful of Epsom salts with a small amount of olive oil. Then scrub your feet until the salts have dissolved and the oil has softened your skin. Rinse with lukewarm water.
Deodorize them. Foot odor can be a real problem when you’re trying to cool off sweaty summer feet. To send the smell on its way, mix ½ cup of Epsom salts in a foot basin filled with warm water, and soak your dogs for 10 minutes. Repeat daily.
Seal the cracks. Treat your cracked, flaky feet to this enriched moisturizing formula: Combine 1 tablespoon of mashed banana, 2 tablespoons of honey, and 2 tablespoons of soft margarine. Stir the ingredients until the texture is creamy, then massage the mixture onto your clean, dry feet. Pull on a pair of cotton socks, and head to bed. Come morning, rinse the stuff off. Repeat as needed until your feet are silky smooth and sandal-ready.
Give ingrown nails the boot. Put a milk-soaked slice of bread in a plastic bag that’s big enough to hold your foot. Put your foot into the bag and press the bread around the painful toe. Keep your foot in the bag for 30 minutes. Repeat as necessary until your nail has grown out.
There you go—now you can go out and celebrate your pretty new feet with a new pair of sandals!
