Go Bananas! 3 Great Reasons Why They're the Best of the Bunch

Yes, they're delicious, but set one aside so your skin can benefit, too.

I’m sure you already know that bananas are Mother Nature’s most perfect fast food. They come prepackaged in a biodegradable wrapper and require no utensils for perfect enjoyment. Plus, they’re potassium powerhouses that battle cancer, heart disease, and PMS, among other things. But this yummy, nutritious fruit has even more magic under its skin that can benefit your skin—and your hair, too! Here’s how:
  • This mixture is just the ticket for dry, frizzy, or damaged hair: Mash half a ripe banana and half a ripe avocado in a bowl. Add 1 tablespoon of extra-virgin olive oil and three drops of lemon oil. Mix everything together and work the mixture into your dry hair. Cover your hair with a shower cap, wait 60 minutes or so, and shampoo as usual. For badly damaged hair, repeat this treatment up to three times a week until the bounce and shine return.
  • For a facial that you’ll truly go bananas for, puree one banana and one avocado in a blender. Apply the mixture to your skin and leave it on for at least 20 minutes, then rinse with warm water and pat dry.
  • Wish you had some avocadoes for a DIY facial? Try this simple skin treatment instead: Add 1 tablespoon of honey to a mashed banana. Cover your face with the mixture, let it sit for 15 minutes, and rinse with warm water.
