Got Sunburn? Get Milk, Cukes, Lavender, and More
If too much time out in the summer sun (whether tending your plants or lounging at the beach) lands you a nasty sunburn, try these homespun pain relievers. You’ll be up-and-at-‘em again in no time—just don't forget the sun block next time!
- Dab whole milk on your sizzling skin for 15 minutes every 2 to 4 hours.
- Fill your tub with cool to lukewarm water, add some baking soda, and soak for as long as you like.
- Add enough water to cornstarch to make a paste, then apply it directly to the affected area.
- Place chilled cucumber slices on your simmering skin.
- Fill an 8-ounce spray bottle with cold water and add 6 drops of lavender oil. Shake well, then spray on the burned areas.
- Mix the contents of six capsules each of vitamin A and vitamin E to ¼ cup of flaxseed oil. Apply frequently to the sunburned areas.
- Slather plain, cold yogurt over scorched skin for soothing relief.
