It's a Breeze to Get Some Zs
There’s nothing like a good night’s sleep, unless you’re an insomniac. If that’s the case, don’t give up! Instead, try a little tinkering with your sleep cycle. Here’s how:
- Knock yourself out with a little physical activity during the day. It’ll reduce stress and induce sleep.
- Set your brain clock. Repeat the same sleep pattern every day until you’re on a good schedule. Your body will adapt to the regularity.
- It may be a medical condition, like arthritis, that’s keeping you awake. Don’t be a stiff-upper-lipper when it comes to pain. Talk to your doctor and do something about it.
- Darken your room. Your body needs darkness to trigger its sleep cycle.
If you find no other reason for your sleeplessness, consider your coffee habit. Keep the high test for the morning, and switch to decaf in the afternoon or evening.
- You spend a third of your life in bed, so invest in a good mattress and pillow that’ll help you enjoy your stay. Use a featherbed under your sheet for a floating-on-a-cloud feeling. And treat yourself to high thread count sheets and covers that won’t make you itchy or uncomfortable.
- Striving to sleep only makes the problem worse, so if you haven’t fallen asleep after a little while, get up and distract yourself. Sit in another room, and read or do some paperwork. That should put you to sleep.
