The Apple of Your Eye
It’s possible to avoid morning after miseries if you know you’re in for a long night
of celebrating. Just make sure you’re ready to tame the pain before a hangover rears
its ugly head. Here’s how to do it:
- Fatty foods delay alcohol absorption, so before you reach for the bubbly, drink
a glass of milk or munch on a cheesy snack.
- Eat honey on a cracker or a piece of toast before or after drinking. The sugar in
the sticky stuff will speed up the metabolism of alcohol. Sweet!
- Sip a sports drink for breakfast the morning after. It’s loaded with potassium—a
terrific hangover-fighting mineral.
- Can’t stand the taste of sports drinks? Eat a banana or swig a glass of carrot juice
instead. They’re packed with plenty of potassium, too.
- Is your head throbbing so hard that you can’t even think straight? Fill a plastic
bag with crushed ice (or grab a bag of frozen peas), and hold it against your head
to help shrink the swollen blood vessels and silence the pounding.
