Poison Ivy
If you have an unexpected encounter with poison ivy, you’re gonna need to ditch
the itch. But if you don’t have any soothing Calamine® lotion on hand, don’t worry—you
probably have a few super soothers in your kitchen cupboard. Check these out:
Baking soda—
- Bathe in it—dump ½ cup of baking soda into lukewarm bathwater and soak for a while.
- Slather it on—mix a handful of baking soda with just enough water to make a thick
paste, and spread it all over the affected areas. After the paste dries, take a
hot shower to rinse off the residue.
- Go herbal—make a paste using witch hazel instead of water, and smooth it on the
itchy spots. You’ll get a tingly, cooling sensation that’s just what the doctor
ordered.
Buttermilk—dip a clean soft cloth into a cupful, and sponge it over your rashy skin.
Tomatoes—cut a green tomato in half, and rub the cut part over the itchy bumps.
