Laryngitis
OK, so you weren’t actually at the big game, but you were screaming so loud at your
TV that you’ve lost your voice. Try these tips to find it fast:
- Give ‘em the silent treatment. Don’t talk at all—don’t even whisper. Your inflamed
vocal chords will recover much more quickly.
- Take it like a pro. Professional singers and speakers recover their voices and keep
their throats in tip-top shape by sipping slippery elm tea. Steep 1 heaping teaspoon
of the dried herb in 1 cup of hot water for 15 minutes. Strain, add honey and lemon,
and sip 3 to 4 cups per day.
- Wrap it up, folks—a carrot neck wrap is just the ticket! Grate a carrot onto a length
of cheesecloth. Fold the cloth in half length-wise, and moisten it with warm water.
Wrap it around your neck, and then wrap a warm towel on top. Keep it in place for
20 to 30 minutes. For extra heat, sprinkle some cayenne pepper on the grated carrot.
- Thyme the pot. Place 3 to 4 drops of essential oil of thyme in a pot of hot, steaming
water. Bend over the pot—taking care not to get a steam burn! —and tent your head
with a towel. Breathe in deeply.
